List Building: Blood Angels with Knights

The release of the Knights has got me thinking of some fun new lists to feature them in. Right now I'm toying with a few different builds using the Knights as allies. These builds are at 1850.

Blood Angels
HQ Librarian
Troops: 3x (2x6, 1x5) Assault Squad in Razorbacks
Heavy: 3x Vindicators
Allies: 1 Knight Paladin, 1 Knight Errant

This is just a rough idea but with 2 knights and 3 fast Vindicators this list packs some intensive firepower. The Vindicators keep troops or anything away from the knights, driving behind them. Razorbacks assist and go where needed. Still working on the exact gear for the infantry. I'll have a more complete list soon. Any comments so far?

FrostyCon: After Action Report 1

Hi all, Slick here. So FrostyCon has come and gone and here is the Imperial Guard list I took with me. I ended up going 2-2 for a solid day. The biggest difficulties unsurprisingly came form Eldar/Tau with their ability to ignore cover which made it much easier to down my fliers. The list handled Necrons and Chaos Space Marines really well though. The Skyshield is an awesome fortification to work with and will frustrate an opponent's shooting. Some fun highlights were sniping Imothek round 1 and Eldrad round 2 with Manticores! Round three my first four shots with Manticores rolled up three tempaltes so that was fun! The codex can still hang with current armies although it is showing its age. Thus far, rumors point to several new kits but it will be interesting to see what guard get to deal with all the threats 6th ed codecies offer.

FrostyCon itself was a blast. As a co-ogranizer for the Indiana 40K Championship series, and this being the first full year of the series, and the inaugural FrostyCon, everything went really well. We held the event at Gamerz in Indianapolis, a fantastic store with tons of space, great staff, and really just about everything you'd want in a good game store. We had a little over 30 players for the event which is a good start we can build on. Everyone seemed to have a great time. All my opponents were great fun to play against and it was a good day to learn more about refining my play and the army, although I will hold off on doing anything more with the Guard until the new codex comes out!

Next up is in the Indiana series is TippCon IV, May 31-June 1 in Lafayette, Indiana. It's going to be a weekend packed full of events, and not just for 40K. We will have all of the information up shortly so stay tuned. I will also do a more detailed round-by-round analysis of my games for FrostyCon soon. Comments welcome!

Eldar: 1850 List

Hey all, here is an Eldar list I have been working on. 1 Farseer goes into each Guardian blob and the Warlock accompanies the Farseer with the Shard. I gave it a run against a Marine/Tau list and ended up doing pretty well, scoring max objectives and only losing about 200 points or so. Let me know what you think of the list.

Farseer - Shard, Runes of Witnessing
Farseer - Spear, Runes of Witnessing
Warlock

20 Guardians w/2x Bright Lance Platforms

3x3 Jetbikes

6 Swooping Hawks

Dark Wolves and Tau at 2000

Space wolves still have one of the best troop choices in the game, and I have a nice Dark Wolves army painted up, so why don't we look at making them competitive.  The Grey Hunters need to be in your face fast and they need additional high-pressure units to minimize shooting on them.  They need a soft target to assault and they need some way to deal with Heldrakes.

Rune Priest - Chooser, JotWW, LL

Dread - HF, Assault Cannon - Drop Pod
Dread - HF, Assault Cannon - Drop Pod

9 Grey Hunters - fist, MotW, Standard, Plasma gun, - Drop Pod
10 Grey Hunters - fist, MotW, Standard, 2 x melta gun - Drop Pod
10 Grey Hunters - fist, MotW, Standard, 2 x melta gun - Drop Pod

Shadowsun - 2 x Shield Drone, Command link

Riptide - Shielded Missle Drone, TL Fusion, Ion Accelerator, Early Warning, Velocity Tracker

15 Kroot -Shaper + 5 Hounds

5 Pathfinders

3 Broadsides - TLHY Missles, SMS, Seeker Missle, Early Warning - 6 x missle Drones

Light on troops.
Shadowsun goes with the Broadsides for 2+ cover and Command Link love.
Riptide to intercept deep strikers and as secondary anti-flyer
Broadsides as primary anti flyer
Pathfinders because markerlights.

It doesn't seem overly threatening, but it feels like it has a lot of answers to 6th builds I see regularly.

Tau: Balanced Farsight List V1.0

Slick here with a first crack at a Tau list with the new codex. It focuses heavily on the Farsight bomb but has plenty of markerlight support and 2 Riptides to present opponents with more major threats. I went with two big units of Kroot decked out with the new sniper rounds. These guys should provide a nasty little surprise against the unwary opponent. Comments welcome!

Blood Angels: Land Raider rush list

(Pic from OnlyHD Wallpapers)

Slick here again with a list I´ve been working on for my Blood Angels. I´ve been tinkering with the idea of getting as many Land Raiders onto the field at 1850 while still having an effective list. Below I have a test list that I´m going to put through its paces very soon. Blood Angels actually have Land Raiders as Dedicated Transports which allows for more than 3 to hit the field. The Blood Angels also have the ability to get really cheap transports by having assault marines drop their jump packs to get a nice 35 point discount on any Dedicated Transports. So, let´s dig into the list:

I´ve got 4 Assault Squads each with their own Land Raider Crusader. The two big squads get double meltas to help deal with vehicles or other tough targets. The two smaller squads are barebones except for a flamer each, mainly cleanup duties. A Sanguinary Priest joins one of the big Assault Squads and our Librarian either joins the same squad or the other larger squad. The FNP bubble does spread out quite nicely from the Land Raider so it isn´t always necessary to get out. I´ll aim for about 5 practice games with the list as is before tweaking it. Comments and suggestions welcome!

Dark Angels: List Ideas.

Hey friends, Frankie here. I’ve been hearing a lot about the new Codex that the Dark Angels got, so I have made myself a 1500 point list. Now this is an untested list, but I would love to know what you all think. So please comment and share your thoughts.

 HQ:
Belial- 190 points
Librarian- with Infravisor. 70 points

Troops:
Scout Squad- x5 with sniper rifles. 60 points
Deathwing Terminator squad- x5, one equipped with a cyclone missile launcher and lightning claws, three with thunder hammers and storm shields. 260 points
Deathwing Terminator squad- x5, three equipped with thunder hammers and storm shields. 235 points

Elites:
Deathwing Knights- x5. 235 points

Fast Attacks:
Ravenwing Attack Squad- x3, one equipped with a plasma gun, Sergeant has a chainsword. 95 points
Ravenwing Attack Squad- x3, one equipped with a plasma gun, Sergeant has a chainsword. 95 points

Heavy Support:
Devastator Squad- two with lascannons, two with missile launchers and flakk missiles. 160 points

Fortification:
Aegis Defense Line- with Quad-gun. 100 points

Now there is a point to everything in this list, there is a plan that goes along with it. With this list you’re going to want to second in objective based games, I’ll explain why in a bit. Let’s start with deployment.  Set up your Aegis line on your side of the table with good line of sight to most of your opponents army. Give your Librarian the Diviation primaris power, Prescience. And put him on the Quad-gun. Line up you’re Devastators along the Aegis line. Be sure to keep them all a little over 2” behind the wall for enemy assaulting. (pg. 104 “Barricades and Walls”) Put you’re Scouts behind the Devastators on an Objective placed earlier. (Mission permitting) Place you’re Ravenwings just ahead of your Defense line ready to move up the table. Have Belial with the Terminators that have the cyclone missile launcher, have that unit come in on turn 1, due to the Deathwing Assault special rule, and the other two come in later by Belial or next to your Bikes. That’s it for deployment.

Some of you may already see where I’m going with this. During every movement phase have you’re Librarian cast Prescience on your Devastators, you now have four awesome guns that are all twin-linked that can take both tanks and flyers at 48”, and due to the Sergeants Signum, you make one of the BS-5 depending what you’re shooting at. And because the Librarian is on the Quad-gun you can spilt their fire. Your Scouts too can help with some suppressing fire with their sniper rifles. I like have a real cheap Troop choice holding an Objective that can hide well, and with their free snipers they can help shoot as well as claim victory points.

Have Belial and his unit Deep Strike behind enemy lines and have that missile launcher do some damage behind those three storm shields. This is why you want to go second, hoping your opponent will march many units up and out of range to hurt this unit. Move your Ravenwings up to a good strategic point. This allows you to put you’re two remaining units within 6” of Belial or your Bikers without fear of scatter because of their teleport homers. I would have them come in by Belial most of the time. This allows you to sandwich your opponent between 16 Terminators and some serious fire power. You may want to move Belial to the Knights unit or even start him there. I like the missile launcher coming in first so you can get some first turn shooting with it. Also the free Lightning claws are good for him because he is basicaly replacing a strom bolter for missiles. I would also make your Librarian the Warlord over Belial, because with him on the other side of the table like that people are going to try very hard to kill him, where the Librarian is a little more protected. And you may be thinking why take two units of Ravenwings like this instead of one unit of 6 then use the Combat Squad rule, because it cost 1 point more and you will no longer have an even 1500 list. And if you fear all your shooter being assaulted behind you’re Defense line, you can start some Terminators back there to help out instead of Deep Striking them.

So this is my list, it has yet to be tested but I’m hoping to get in some games with it in the near future. Please leave your comments and let me know what you think. If you like it, hate it, what you change or do different. Or how you’re army would handle it. All is welcome.

Until next time!

-Frankie-
