News: GW Ultimate Paint Set!

Check out the latest release from Games-Workshop - the new Ultimate Paint Set tops out at 144 paints!

From GW's site:

"The Ultimate Paint Set is surely the mightiest set of paints that Games Workshop has ever produced, and contains every one of our 144 Citadel Paints. Yep, that's 34 Base paints, 12 Shades, 70 Layer paints, 6 Texture paints, 15 Dry Compounds, 4 Glazes and 3 Technical paints - what's more, all of these come packed into six drawers in a robust cardboard unit. Whether or not you have a dedicated hobby area, this is a fantastic way to organise your paints."

This is great for someone looking to go all out with the painting aspect of the hobby but for the typical gamer it may be too much. It is nice that the box is organized with drawers to keep things organized for those without dedicated hobby space. Will you order an Ultimate Paint Set?

We'll have some commentary from Bryan regarding the starter he painted shortly so keep checking this post for updates. In the mean time, please feel free to let us know what you think about the Core or Dark Age of if you have any questions.

Hobby Update: Bone Griffons for Uncharted Seas

Slick here again with the first entry for my Bone Griffons painting log for Uncharted Seas. One of the fleets that really benefited from the new sculpts were the Bone Griffons which really drew me to starting a new fleet. The most obvious improvement for the Bone Griffons was in the size and quality of their undead Orcas which are almost as big as some cruisers! This first pic features all 6 from the starter. I will have some more updates soon so stay tuned! Comments welcome!

Breaking! Dark Age mystery message in Ravage magazine!

So, if you peruse the pages of the new Ravage magazine here in the USA, issue #4 has some unusual mystery art in it, that has some Dark Age ties.  For a closer look CLICK HERE! Clearly, the skull in the middle is the Dark Age skull we have grown to love, but the background is clearly Mayan (kind of reminds me of a calendar).

Unless I can get an exclusive, I'll have to wait until December 21, 2012 to see if the tagline, "Everything Dies!" holds up.  Maybe the Mayans have it right?

Breaking! Cool Mini or Not! lead times extended!

Cool Mini or Not! (CMoN) is in the process of moving to a new warehouse to accomadate more product and greater demand.  Lead times for orders are on average extended at least another week or two.

I am sure that as soon as the transition is complete, the guys at CMoN will strive to get caught up and drop the lead times back to normal as soon as possible.

Breaking! New Terrain from GF9 and Battlefront!

New terrain was previewed on the GF9 and Battlefront (FoW) sites today, more of the excellent Battlefield in a Box series.  Battlefront has also changed its policy towards previewing its new Battlefield in a Box terrain, and will announce it with the GREATEST lead time as possible to keep up with demand.  Remember that all Battlefield in a Box terrain comes pre-painted and pretty much ready o play out of the box.

New Battlefield in a Box terrain

Multi-scale terrain releases:

Rocky outcrops -due out in December- this is a new set of outcrops, look as good as the current set, I will probably get these since these are truly multi-scale, can be used for FoW, 40K, WarmaHordes, and my favorite, small islands for Uncharted Seas and Dystopian Wars

Toxic Pools -due out in November

Energon Crystals -due out in November- these are new sculpts for the purple crystals, completely different from the Ice Blue, Blood Red, and Alien Green current releases, these have a completely different feel (setting wise) compared to the others (or at least they do to me)

Flames of War releases:

Cratered Cobblestone roads

Small winter pine wood

Bastogne Church

Bocage (straights and extras) [think very dense hedge rows]

Keep it right here for more news and updates!

Imperial Guard: Sentinel 1

Slick here again, with another update for my Imperial Guard painting log. Today I have a work in progress sentinel to share with you guys. This one had been sitting unpainted for about a year in my case and with a recent painting competition at our local store as part of a 40K league, I decided to enter him in the dreadnought/monstrous creature category, as guard really do not have many choices in that area. Let's get into the pic:

I wanted to add a little bit of drama to the base and using a spare Ork I had laying around I decided to pose the sentinel stepping on the Ork's arm which was holding a big shoota. As with my other vehicles, I am using a specific cammo scheme.

Imperial Guard: Armageddon Pattern Basilisk

Slick here again. Today I have an update for my imperial guard. I have been working on a bunch of my vehicles lately and the first one that is getting close to being finished is my Armageddon Pattern Basilisk. I decided to go with something similar to the German hinterhalt (ambush) cammo scheme. I really wanted to go all out on my armageddon pattern tanks and I added quite a bit of stowage which you can see in the pics below:

I used a spare tank figure from the baneblade kit to add a tank commander to the basilisk.

More stowage on this side with a backpack and spare fuel cans.

Interior detail. Still needs some finishing touches in here.

I will be finishing up some small details and then adding weather details. Let me know what you guys think!

GW 40K Chaos Codex and more goodies hit shelves today

So as many of you are aware, GW released it's first hardback codex for 40K, Chaos Marines.

Here is a direct link to what hit the shelves today

I had a chance to sit down with a copy that happened to be left out on the counter at my FLGS and start working on a 1500 and 2000 point list on Friday, and was amazed at the improvements for Chaos Lords and some of the point-level adjustments that were made to make Chaos a codex that a lot of people at the FLGS are talking about again.

I am already liking some of the synergies I found amongst the wargear, one combination that I liked is Black Mace and Dimensional Key...  but don't expect to see "Lash" lists, "Lash" didn't even make it into the codex (or at least thus far, I haven't seen it in there).

I am going to give my initial list a couple of go-rounds before making any serious purchases... luckily my 1500 point list doesn't require me to buy anything, just borrow a couple of models from some friends to get me going.

I'll keep you posted on how my lists evolve and fare, just keep an eye open here for future updates.
