Slick back again to recap the new info on the Scions from the latest White Dwarf. Let's take a look!
Here we have the basic breakdown thus far:

Basically it appears that this supplement will just flesh out then classic Stormtroopers with some new toys and an organizational hierarchy similar to the familiar guard platoon from the current codex. The statline remains familiar although Ld9 on the command squad sergeant will be huge for giving orders. Of course we are still in the dark about how orders will change. This preview gives us a likely glimpse into how veteran squads will likely get downgraded to 2 special weapons per squad.
The new addition here that is really worth talking about are the hotshot volleyguns. These will add some surprising firepower to scion squads. The standard hotshot lasguns are S3 AP3. They'll punch right through marines but will have trouble wounding. The volleygun ups the strength to 4 and adds torrent 2/4. So if you have two of these in a squad that stood still that's 8 S4Ap3 shots heading down range. Multiple squads with volleyguns will be able to make marine squads disappear and will really hurt minimized squads if they're a target. The command squad, if we're reading this correctly, gets to take up to 4 special weapons so you could really see the potential to spam your favorite weapon. Of course if you maxed out and took 3 minimized platoons, that gives you 3 command squads. 4 volleyguns in a a squad would kick out a fiendish amount of shots. It would be interesting to see if hotshot guns can benefit from First Rank Second Rank this time around, assuming that order remains the same.
What do you guys think of the Scions this early into the lead up to the codex release? Are they a worthy update to Stormtroopers? I will definitely pick up several boxes. Even if they turn out to be subpar, there conversion possibilities will be amazing.
