News: Rebel Aces for X-Wing Announced
Hot on the heels of Imperial Aces Fantasy Flight Games has announced Rebel Aces! What all does the new set add?
Listen up pilots, Rebel Aces is coming and it's going to provide the Rebels with all kinds of new tricks for A-Wings and B-Wings!
Rebel Aces features one A-wing and one B-wing miniature, both of which come with alternate paint schemes. You’ll also find four highly skilled unique, new pilots; thirteen upgrade cards; maneuver dials; and all the tokens necessary to launch these starfighters into the thickest action of your space battles against the evil Galactic Empire. It also includes a new mission, which thrusts some of the Rebellion’s finest pilots into a desperate rescue effort that highlights the B-wing’s durability and the A-wing’s agility.
The set helps focus on the two ships as prototypes and the development of the fighters before the Battle of Endor. The A-Wing represents this with the ship painted in the blue color scheme found on the prototype pilot card.
Meanwhile, the B-Wing is painted in the Dagger Squadron scheme of red and white representing the original squad to fly it.
Now let's get to the exciting goodies - the ace pilots and upgrades!
These new aces open up some exciting possibilities. Jake Farrell wants to be focusing and paired with Kyle and the Moldy Crow this will be one agile pilot. Kevan Farlander on the other hand will make the best of stress by turning a potential bad effect into an offensive bonus!
What about the upgrades you say? There are some exciting new options and a first for the game (a negative point upgrade)!
Keeping opponents guessing as to what your high skill aces will do and when.
Want to make your elite pilots even more elite? This is the card for you and seems to be the Rebel equivalent to the Royal Guard upgrade for Interceptors.
All those elite pilots and upgrades cost major points. Skip the missiles and lower your points costs a bit on the A-Wings.
This is going to give some much needed love to the A-Wings and B-Wings although B-Wings are already such a tough ship to deal with when flown well. Hopefully this expansion will bring more A-Wings to the table. Or will it just make the B-Wings even more dominant for Rebels?
What are your thoughts on all the new X-Wing goodness set to release this year?
