Knights: Paladin and Errant ready to rumble

Hey all, I've been working on my knight assembly and here is the first pair. I decided on going with the Knight Errant for the second kit. This will be it for now until I see if GW will bother adding the various variants (Lancer, Baron, Castellan, etc.) as additions to this codex or if the variants will be ForgeWorld produced. I have to again remark at how much fun these kits are to assemble! The movable arms and weapons are a great touch to these already impressive kits.

Next step is to get these guys primed up and then to start the painting process. I believe these guys will belong to House Raven.

What have your experiences with the Knights been so far? Have you played with/against them?

List Building: Blood Angels with Knights

The release of the Knights has got me thinking of some fun new lists to feature them in. Right now I'm toying with a few different builds using the Knights as allies. These builds are at 1850.

Blood Angels
HQ Librarian
Troops: 3x (2x6, 1x5) Assault Squad in Razorbacks
Heavy: 3x Vindicators
Allies: 1 Knight Paladin, 1 Knight Errant

This is just a rough idea but with 2 knights and 3 fast Vindicators this list packs some intensive firepower. The Vindicators keep troops or anything away from the knights, driving behind them. Razorbacks assist and go where needed. Still working on the exact gear for the infantry. I'll have a more complete list soon. Any comments so far?

ForgeWorld: Mechanicum Thallax Cohorts

The latest form ForgeWorld:

Designed to operate in the most lethal and hazardous theatres of war, the Thallaxii have undergone extensive cybernetic augmentation, allowing them to wield extremely potent weaponry with inhuman accuracy. Created exclusively by the Ordo Reductor for the other militant arms of the Mechanicum, what little organic material remains of the Thallaxii is protected and enhanced by the Lorica Thallax. This encases their major organs, nervous system and cerebrum, their skeleton and limbs being entirely replaced with armoured mechanical systems powered by an internal reactor core. Their primary weapon is the lightning gun, which is just as effective at killing the living as it is at overloading vehicles and weapons.
When engaging with more heavily armoured targets such as vehicles or fortifications, the Thallaxii will be rearmed with the devastating multi-melta, the furious blast of heat it produces turning an enemy’s sanctuary into little more than bubbling slag.

The Thallaxii are heavily augmented cyborg shock-troops used by the Mechanicum Ordo Reductor, and they differ from the Skitarii regiments both in purpose and the unique degree of their augmetics. The Lorica Thallax was developed from power armour technology and requires a robust human specimen.

The Lorica encloses the major organs, nervous system and cerebrum, but entirely replaces the skeletal structure and limbs with armoured bionics powered by an internal reactor-core. Surgical excision of the subject’s pain sensors, emotions, and normal human sensory apparatus and the agony caused by the Lorica’s implantation, leaves the Thallax a cold, calculating killing machine (albeit one that retains a degree of independent thought).

Knights: First one assembled!

Slick here again after a bit more work on the Knight. I just completed the build and I have to say I'm very happy with the entire assembly and the quality and detail of the kit. The movable arms and other parts are a great step up and one can only hope GW continues to add these extra levels to their big kits.

I decided to go with the battle cannon variant for this first one. I will probably go with the Knight Errant (melta) version for the second kit. I will post up some comparison pics so people can get an idea of where this guy fits in with all the other recent big kits. That new base is huge.  All the excitement over these Knights has me brewing up a few lists which I'll post up in my next article. Stay tuned!

Knights: Work in Progress

Slick here again with a few work in progress shots of the first Knight kit I'm assembling. So far the kit goes together really smoothly although there are several tiny bits so it is important to carefully follow the directions. After a few hours the body is assembled. All that's left now will be the weapon arms. I will be going with the battle cannon variant for this first one. More coming soon!

X-Wing: Imperial Aces Preview and Discussion

Imperial Aces for Fantasy Flight Games' X-Wing is set to arrive sometime in March and it's time for Imperial players to get excited! It seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far away that Wave 3 released and the while there have been previews of new ships since then there have not been any releases. This is just what the game needs to get players going again and to shake up the meta.

The box set will bring two custom-painted TIE Interceptors to the table with a host of new pilots and upgrades. Let's dig right in:

Lietenant Lorrir at pilot skill 5 might not always be shooting first but he takes barrel roll to the next level. Tetran Cowall's skill 7 puts him up there with the other super-elite pilots and his ability to k-turn at speeds 1,3, or 5 can set up some nasty surprises, and for just one more point than Lorrir.

Next up, we have the other two pilots. The generic royal guard pilot comes in at an impressive pilot skill 6 and only 22 points! The most elite pilot from this set is Carnor Jax who will want to be up close and personal with enemy ships (preferably out of their firing arc!). He will be able to finish off ships by ignoring focus and evade tokens. The way his ability works means that he essentially debuffs all enemy ships in range 1. Ideally, enemy pilots would end their move close to him, they won't get their focus/evade and then Jax would move close to last with his high pilot skill, hopefully flying out of enemy firing arcs and pouncing on some poor ship.

(All pics from BoardGameGeek)

The upgrades are all very good and will see plenty of use. Royal Guard TIE is a free title which will unlock some more upgrades for any interceptors you give it to. Hull Upgrade is an interesting modification and can really increase the survival chances of TIEs but really any ship. I'd expect this one to see a lot of play. Targeting Computer essentially grants targeting lock to any ship so expect this to pop up on all kinds of Imperial builds. This really gives you some extreme flexibility with Interceptors.

What do you guys think about the Imperial Aces set? How many will most players want to get? If you're mainly a Rebel player, what scares you the most from this new set?
